Chapter Organization
Thomas Poe Chapter Daughters of the American Colonist, was admitted into the National Society January 28, 1981. The Chapter’s organizing committee met on January 19, 1981. The chapter was officially organized in Dallas, Texas on February 7, 1981, 2:00 PM in the home of Mrs. J. D Patterson, Organizing Regent. Mrs. Kenneth Wickett, State chairman of Chapter Organization and State Parliamentarian, formally installed the new officers to wit: Mrs. Charles W. Dodd, Regent; Mrs. Charles smith, first Vice Regent; Mrs. W. B. Jordan, Second Vice Regent; Mrs. Ed B. Trickett, Chaplain; Mrs. Ray Caruth, Recording Secretary; Miss Jannette Herbert, Corresponding Secretary; Mrs. Henry Barris, Registrar; Mrs. Herschel N. Cobb, Treasurer; Mrs. E. J. Neidernaier, Historian; Mrs. Charles W. Kemp, Librarian; Mrs. R. W. McKellar was appointed Parliamentarian. Mrs. Polly Harmonson, a member of the State Bylaws Committee, served as Chaplain for the ceremony.
Thomas Poe
Thomas Poe, the ancestor of organizing Regent Mrs. Maxine Dodd, emigrated first to New Castle on the Delaware. He removed to Concocheaque Valley in 1771 and to Antrum Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1746. It was there that he obtained a land warrant on October 09, 1750 for 568 acres and 40 perches. His land began on the Concocheaque on the North and extended along the Gilford Township line to the East. Sometime prior to 1756 he built his home, similar to those common among the gentry of Ulster, Ireland. He was a man of prominence in Antrum, where he held a number of local offices and was service as constable at the time of his death in1770. He married Mary Potter; to this union were born four children. One son and three daughters.
